Brooklyn Museum:
A Capsule Collection

PREFACE

In early 2022, Kate Foley, the Director of Merchandising and Retail Strategy of the Brooklyn Museum, reached out about designing a capsule collection for the museum shop. ¶ In case you're unfamiliar with the Brooklyn Museum, it's New York's second-largest museum, covering over 560,000 square feet and containing an art collection of around 500,000 objects. ¶ With the mission of ingbringing people together through art and experiences that inspire celebration, compassion, courage, and the will to act, I was more than happy to produce a capsule collection for an institution like this. ¶

For this capsule collection, a total of six pieces were produced. Taking cues from the museum's first logo, or monogram in this case, I made a more modern interpretation. Adding the 'k' and ensuring all the characters were leaning forward. ¶ From there, a custom typeface was built, combining features from the monogram and the museum's current sans-serif logo. ¶ These elements came together to form this capsule collection. ¶
