To compile their 12th annual list, Forbes writers and editors—with the help of expert independent judges like Joe Jonas, Aimee Song, Bobbi Brown and Sid Sijbrandij—evaluated more than 12,000 candidates on factors including funding, revenue, social impact, inventiveness, and potential. ¶ In their words, “The 600 who made the cut are both an inspiration and a challenge to the conventional wisdom. Black Design Visionaries
On November 3rd, 2021, Instagram’s @design, the official account dedicated to celebrating the craft and creativity of the design community, is announced the five recipients of the inaugural Black Design Visionaries grant program (now Black Visionaries). Presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Museum, #BlackVisionaries aims to uplift, center and invest in rising Black designers and Black-led design businesses who offer experimental expressions of Black culture and have a powerful vision for the future. ¶ The grant recipients were chosen from more than 500 applications by a prestigious committee led by writer and curator Antwaun Sargent and including Ruth E. Carter, Justina Blakeney, Toni L. Griffin, Sarah Elizabeth Lewis, Rick Lowe, Bobby C. Martin Jr, Heron Preston, Ian Spalter and Asad Syrkett. ¶ Read more on Instagram.com . ¶
Young Guns 17
The One Club for Creativity, the world's foremost non-profit organization recognizing creative excellence in advertising and design, has announced the 28 winners hailing from 18 countries for the prestigious Young Guns 17 competition, celebrating creative professionals age 30 or younger. ¶ Young Guns is the industry’s only international, cross-disciplinary, portfolio-based awards competition that identifies today’s vanguard of young creatives. Submissions were received from more than 45 countries and judged by 61 top creatives from around the world, about half of whom are past Young Guns winners. Learn more on oneclub.org .¶
TDC Ascenders
On July 18th, at the TDC’s annual awards ceremony in New York City, the Type Directors Club announced the 2018 Ascenders, nineteen designers under the age of 35 who show remarkable achievement in typography, type design, and lettering. In its inaugural year, the board of the Type Directors Club had the difficult task of selecting this group from 230 outstanding designers from 39 countries. The board was impressed with the quality and diversity of the entries, which offered proof that outstanding work is being done around the world. The selected group of 2018 Ascenders come from thirteen countries. ¶
